Asahi – After Dark Gala Dinner, Friday 29th June 2018, Ballina RSL Club

A community event presented by the Rotary Club of Ballina-on-Richmond

This year’s festival features 2 different events run over 2 days at various locations.  Showcasing a fusion of the best produce, products, restaurants and culinary expertise our region has to offer along with premium wines, craft beer, cider and spirits from around Australia and abroad.

The Food & Wine Festival is in it’s 9th year. Each year the proceeds of the festival are donated to worthy causes both local community and international projects. Some of the local beneficiaries over the years have included: Ballina Lighthouse and Lismore Surf Lifesaving, Riding for the Disabled, Heartfelt House, Ballina SES, Paradise FM, Cancer Council Australia, Ballina’s Marine Rescue Unit, Ballina and District Community Services Association, Our House, Biala Special School and Australian Seabird Rescue Ballina Jet Boat Rescue, Ballina Rotaract and Orange Sky Laundry.

Our 2018 major beneficiary is the Ballina Shire Rural Fire Services

It has been the philosophy of the Ballina Food and Wine Festival to have one local major beneficiary each year from this event. This year we will be supporting the Ballina Shire Rural Fire Services, a vital community asset.

There are five Rural Fire Service (RFS) Brigades across the shire consisting of Alstonville, Lennox Head, Meerschaum Vale, Newrybar and Wardell.

The NSW Rural Fire Service is the largest community-based volunteer fire service in the world. The NSW RFS has over 70,000 volunteer members providing emergency services to over 95 percent of NSW. There are 140 volunteers from the five Ballina Shire brigades who take time from their daily lives to help our community.

The volunteers respond to a range of emergencies, including fires, motor vehicle accidents, natural disasters, search and rescue. They also reduce the risk of fires occurring by performing controlled burns and clearing. The volunteers also provide information and support to the community about fire prevention and ways to protect our environment.

The RFS volunteers of the Ballina Shire are a dedicated team, providing a service to the community responding to various incidents. Our Rotary Club are proud to support such a worthy organisation.  A very special group of volunteers who rely on community support to purchase equipment and resources to perform their job. This extra funding enables them to protect and help our community to the best of their ability.

While our Festival provides financial support for one major beneficiary, we also support a number of other charities and organisations.
